Harvey and Susan Windle opened Forest Gems Gallery in 1996. They chose Port Townsend because of the high energy they felt throughout the town when they visited. They moved their business from the Pike Place Market in Seattle where Harvey had successfully sold his beautiful wood crafts for twenty-three years. Forest Gems Gallery specializes in west coast highly figured native woods and works with artistic Northwest woodworkers. We believe in our artists and our regular customers know us for our high quality wood and work. Harvey continues to work the wood. His hand mirrors, wall clocks, weather stations, practical yet artistic myrtlewood cutting boards, and hair barrettes can be found in the Gallery. He also enjoys making custom pieces for our customers - fireplace mantels, coffee tables, beds and abstract wall art. We sell the raw wood for customers to choose from for their own projects or for us to work with for custom pieces. Susan manages the Gallery and has volunteered with the Port Townsend Main Street Program for the past 6 years. She is currently the Board President. In her spare time, she enjoys walking her two active dogs, keeping fit on her treadmill and is currently going through the A-Z mystery series by Sue Grafton.
